The app showcases the work of professional photographer Jacques Bravo. Published in many books and magazines including Zoom and Géo, Jacques Bravo’s awe-inspiring photography was also displayed at the “Maroc” exhibition at the Carrousel du Louvre in Paris in 2000.

Right in time for Earth Day and National Park Week, the app update brings you high resolution pictures and graphics for the new iPad’s Retina display. We also added around 500 new pictures and Visual Stories, a new way to enjoy the beauty of National Parks one story at a time, in a magazine format.

To celebrate National Park Week, during which the admittance to the parks is free, we decided to make the app free as well so that everyone with an iPad or iPhone can enjoy their incredible beauty.

This extraordinary image collection is the result of a 10-year project. QT Luong traveled over 100,000 miles, by car, aircraft of all sizes, ferry, motor boat, kayak, even venturing underwater, and climbing to the summit of Mount McKinley.

And when you are done with your shortlist and that you are ready to nominate those photos to the encyclopedia, you should keep in mind one golden rule:

Always nominate to the most specific article in Fotopedia

This is a simple rule that you should apply for yourself, but also for other photos on Fotopedia. As a curator, you should resist the urge to add a photo to as many articles as possible, and focus on what is at the core of the image.

There are still plenty of articles where images are not added to the most specific article, and you can help the project by finding them (often in widely generic articles) and add them to more specific articles.

Let’s do this, instead of the opposite, to bring a more relevant photo encyclopedia for everyone!

The app is now also featuring Visual Stories, a new way to enjoy the beauty of France one story at a time, in a magazine format. New Visual Stories will be published and available in the app several times a week.

However, during the beta period, we also noticed that less accurate members tended to gain reputation by submitting a lot of average content. As part of our quest for quality, we need to update the rules so that mid-quality contributions lead to fewer reputation points than they do at present.

What are the changes?

Some rules have been changed to favor the best contributions. Rules have also been added, so that photographers with great content earn points when someone nominates their picture from the photo library on Fotopedia.

We have removed the penalty on downvoting pictures, so you can freely downvote photos that don’t deserve to be on Fotopedia. Remember that if you downvote a good photo, you could lose reputation points.
